Avalon Gallery at Marazion

This week we celebrated someones significant birthday by spending a few days camping in St Ives. Robin got to surf some good waves while I visited Tate St Ives and saw an inspiring show by Anna Boghiguian, of which more later. I also stepped into The New Craftsman Gallery to see the Adam Buick moon jars currently on show, and also to suss out whether Robin’s jewellery would sit well there (no is the answer). En route home yesterday we stopped off at Marazion via Newlyn Art Gallery, ran the dog on a very windy beach opposite St Michael’s Mount and strolled into town. Voila! Avalon Gallery. I had sold some work years ago in the early 2000s, and what with divorce, stopping making ceramics, and moving a number of times, I’d forgotten what I’d even left there. Imagine my surprise to find a cheeky clay bird still perched in the corner. Kim, who is running the gallery now his wife, Sally sadly passed away last year, didn’t know who had made it due to the mists of time, and taking over an enterprise … So now he knows, has got a price and an address, and hopefully some more will wing their way down to keep him company shortly. As we were talking Robin suggested showing his jewellery which was in the van, a few hours later, Kim was in possession of nearly all that we’d brought along, and Robin had the perfect end to a wonderful trip to Cornwall.
