Birth of Sputniks?

I had been an active member of Prism Textiles since 2008, and really appreciated the love, encouragement to experiment, and professionalism of this group. However, this year I was unable to take part. I was delighted then when Anita Bruce invited me to take part in their first Virtual Festival. The title In Search of (im)Possibilities and my sputnik video Walk in the Wood seemed to appropriately fit the bill. Having made the Pipefish video for Marshwood Virtual Gallery (seen in previous blog) I was inspired to make a site specific piece which celebrated the daily dog walk Lola and I make during lockdown to the ‘spider’ tree in the wood at the end of our lane. Creating a story around the sculpture adds another layer of understanding, and a video supplies further nuance to ideas about making and walking.

Sadly, this week Lola is out of action due to finding barbed wire? in the same wood and needing a lot of stitches. It’s going to be a long ten days of recovery for us all as she is not convinced that she is poorly at all.
